On the left we have a grenadier and cavalry attack against an infantry position with advanced skirmishers. The cavalry decides to attack the infantry by sabering the skirmishers without stopping but eluding them. The infantry decides not to attempt the square because it is very risky and the skirmishers attempt to escape without firing. Not trying to shoot do not have to test but just roll two escape dice. They get only 1 and 2 with the dice and 3 centimetres are not enough to escape.
The infantry did not attempt the square and decided to wait for the cavalry. The line does defensive fire but does not get useful results.

Melee can involve more than two units simultaneously. In this case we proceed to the sum of the values of all units involved in attack minus those in defense taking into account all bonuses and malus. In some cases the defender will be able to add his own troops in the reaction phase (with the optional rules can be added to the melee also commanders).

An important exception must be taken into account: the square can receive the attack of a single unit and a unit involved in an attack to the square cannot be attacked in the reaction phase unless it is intercepted before it reaches contact.

The cavalry then eliminates 2 skirmishers (one for each intercepted base) and reaches the infantry. This is also charged by grenadiers at the same time. The English cavalry reacted by going to support the infantry by attempting to charge the French cavalry on the flank. Rolls the reaction dice and gets 3, 5, 6, 2. Advances 16 cm and does not reach the minimum charge distance but is able to reach the enemy cavalry. In attack we have dragoons 6 + 3 (for the charge) and 4 because attacked by the sides + Grenadiers in charge (4+1) = 10. On defense we have Line Infantry 3 + Dragoons 6 = 9
